San Angelo ISD Board of Trustees Recognized at San Angelo City Council Meeting

San Angelo ISD School Board Trustees were recognized at the San Angelo City Council Meeting on the morning of Tuesday, January 18, 2022 with a special proclamation by Mayor Brenda Gunter declaring January 2022, as “School Board Recognition Month” in San Angelo.

"I, Brenda Gunter, Mayor of the City of San Angelo, Texas, on behalf of the City Council, declare our appreciation to the members of the San Angelo Independent School Board and proclaim the month of January 2022, as ‘SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH’ in San Angelo, Texas and urge all citizens to join us in recognizing the dedication and hard work of local school board members and in working with them to mold an education system that meets the needs of both today’s and tomorrow’s children." Mayor Gunter also added a personal note citing the tremendous dedication to students and staff of each board trustee in a tough year. Board President Max Parker addressed the Council and attendees expressing the pride board trustees have in serving SAISD with a focus on doing what is best for students and supporting teachers and staff, and added appreciation for the City’s support of public education. Superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff then commended the board trustees for their steady hand in guiding the district and noted the average tenure of years of service in the non-paid, elected trustee positions as approaching ten years.

The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) designates January of each year as School Board Recognition Month to celebrate hard-working school board members and educate the public about the important role that a school board plays in our communities and schools. San Angelo ISD’s seven members of the Board of Trustees recognize the importance of public education to our community, and chose to run for election to serve our community and district. Serving on the Board is not an easy task as it is a huge time commitment involving at times very complex issues and is an unpaid position. San Angelo can count on their school board members to weather trials, create opportunities to  provide input and collaborate on important issues, develop solutions, and empower educators while remaining focused on the future of San Angelo students. Our dedicated school board members work with parents, educators, community members, and business leaders to create successful learning environments with the future of San Angelo in mind.

San Angelo ISD school board trustees were also recognized during the January 18, 2022 regular board meeting with special gifts from the students they represent including letters of thanks from our elementary students and handmade welded horseshoes from Career and Technical Education (CTE) welding students.
